Not everyone can live their life under umbrellas, sunshine and happiness. To be honest, we all come back to ourselves at times, and it’s hard to climb out of a deep sadness that has consumed you with tears. Some of us have an even harder time than others and just can’t stop crying. We’ve all been there a time or two, but if you want to break out of the rut, here’s how to stop crying and feel happy again.
When you seem stuck in an endless loop of crying and sadness, it’s hard to believe that you could ever be happy again. But you can definitely be, and that’s why I’m here … to help you get happy again.
Why do people cry?
I’m sure you would all roll your eyes and think, “Because they’re sad. Duh.” But I’ll give you a little secret, just being sad doesn’t mean you’re going to cry. You can be sad for all sorts of reasons and you can never shed a single tear.
You have to be affected so badly that it sends your body into its fight or flight response. When you get so sad, or frustrated, or stressed out about something that is physically stressing your body, you will cry.
How to stop crying and heal yourself shapes
Some of us are a lot more sensitive than others. This means that while some people can be just as sad but not cry, while others cannot even see because the tears blur their vision. If you’re the latter, you probably want to know how to stop crying and get happy again.
It may not be easy, but you can do it. If you’re looking for a way to stop crying and start enjoying yourself again, here are a few tips to get you there.
# 1 Answer all problems.
If you are so sad that you understand how to cry endlessly over something, then there is a problem that you need to address. It doesn’t matter what you’re crying about, you need to find out what the problem is and start fixing it.
Only then can you really stop crying over that single thing? If you just wait for the tears until you can’t cry before moving on with your day, you’ll only end up in tears at another time – probably later that night.
# 2 Remove yourself from harmful situations.
If you put yourself in a position where you will get hurt until you are so unhappy that you have to cry every day, you need to get out of that situation. If there is a person who is hurting you emotionally, get away from them.
This may not be the easiest thing to do, but after the initial shock and heartache of removing yourself from someone’s present or situation, you will feel so much better, and you will be happy again.
# 3 Stay away from the triggers.
If you know that certain places or people or things will open the floodgates and send you into a fit of hysterical tears, avoid them. Sometimes there are things that are so painful that you can never get rid of them completely, and when you are around them you will be made to cry.
Stay back from these things at all costs if you want to know how to stop crying and be happy again. If you are reminded of these painful things over and over again, you will never be able to heal and move forward to find your happiness.
# 4 Find a distraction.
The best way to stop crying when you need to. One quick fix is to find a distraction. You can tune in to your favorite TV show, call a friend, or just go for a walk.
Finding something that will distract you from the one thing that keeps you crying will help you figure out how to stop crying and be happy again. The key to this is to do something that requires you to think hard so that your mind won’t be able to return to the one thing that keeps making you cry.
# 5 Slow down your breathing.
Deep breathing can help you cry just because it calms your whole body. When you suffer from tears, your body is usually in a fight or flight response – and that means your adrenaline is pumping with your heart and lungs.
So when you calmed your body down, it won, ‘I have to cry. This will allow you to start thinking clearly and be able to argue with yourself to stop crying and start being happy.
# 6 Find the one thing that makes you happy and leads you to do so.
We all have this one thing or person that can cheer us up in a second. When you know who or what it is and you know without a doubt that it will make you happy and the tears will stop, then go.
Call your friend, watch this movie, or snuggle up with your dog if that stops the tears. Cheering yourself up and forcing happiness through your tears will help you figure out how to stop crying.
# 7 Change your train of thought.
This takes a lot of practice, but it’s a great way to stop crying. If you can, just redirect your mind to something else so that you don’t cry anymore. Stop thinking about the one thing that is causing all the tears. It’s not easy to do, but if you master it you will be able to keep the tears from flowing in the first place.
# 8 Think about the positive aspects of the situation.
Some situations are awful and when you cry about them, you are really just dealing with all the negative things. Try to think about the positive aspects that arise from the situation.
No matter how little they are, the good things have a way to break through the tears and stop them. So force yourself to think about the positives in any bad situation and then you will know how to stop crying.
# 9 Make a list of things you can do.
I know it seems like it has nothing to do with happiness and stop the tears from overflowing, but it will work! Get out a piece of paper and write down a list of things you need to do.
They can be anything from cleaning up to a shopping list and even a list of small goals that you want to accomplish. This will push your mind away from the sadness and redirect it to all the things you want to accomplish.
# 10 Talk to someone you trust.
Sometimes you can only say something to someone. Go and call someone you trust and just talk to them about anything you are feeling and let the tears fall.
You will quickly find that they can be calming, supportive, and even helpful in relieving tears in your situation. They will teach you how to stop crying and then you will find your happiness again.
Crying is a natural human response to a tough time, but that doesn’t mean we want to cry! If you really want to know how to stop crying and be happy again, these tips will help you get there.
