Instructions on how to connect an electrical outlet!

How to wire an outlet What is the maximum number of sockets on a circuit? Which cable requires to connect a socket? How do you connect an electrical outlet? With step-by-step instructions, this article will tell you how to make a secure connection. If you have any doubts despite the instructions, have a specialist work on the electrical system.

How many sockets are on a circuit?

In the past, it was not uncommon for a total of two to three light and socket outlets to be provided for an entire residential building. This is unthinkable today with a large number of household appliances.

When installing the house, care should take not to have too many sockets on the same circuit. The guideline is a maximum of 4 to 5 double sockets or 6 to 7 single sockets. Each room should (if possible) extra secure. Of course, this also depends on the power that will be connected later. If this is not yet known, it is better to plan one more circuit.

Devices such as washing machines, dishwashers, or microwaves should also lay separately and secured.

Which line or which cable is required? How to wire an outlet

Each 230V Schuko socket must have at least three wires (NYM cable three × 1.5 mm² or wires in the pipe). A protective conductor ( green-yellow ) must carry along. The cable cross-section should be at least 1.5 mm². The line should protect using a B10A circuit breaker. With a feed line cross-section of 2.5 mm² for the socket, the line should save using a circuit breaker B16A.

  • Protective earth conductor must be “ green yellow.”
  • The outer conductor also called “phase,” should be black or brown.
  • The “neutral conductor” has the color blue.

Connect the socket to wire an outlet:

Important – once again, de-energized using a voltage tester measure up.

The connection wires should prepares in the switch box to be 12-16 cm long.

Today there are almost only sockets with plug-in connection terminals. In the past, however, the sockets had screw terminals and tightened with a screwdriver. The plug-in terminals have proven themselves today because you can connect them much faster.

Before stripping the wires, the wires should be very straight at the terminal point and not have any bends. If a wire slightly bends, the terminal end may not hold or be unsafe, resulting in scalding (risk of fire).

Carefully strip the three wires ( green, yellow, blue, black ) to 10 mm with the wire stripper, and be careful not to damage the inner copper wire (a small notch on the wire through the wire stripper is enough to break it).

First, plug the protective conductor (green-yellow) onto the protective conductor terminal in the middle.

Extra tip: Before connecting the sockets, make a straight line with a pencil and a spirit level, 4 mm above the flush-mounted socket. This gives you an exact orientation when attaching the socket *, and it sits perfectly straight the first time.
